Autocares Julià was founded in 1933 thanks to the enterprising spirit of four young people who had come up with a solution to cover the transport needs of sports teams, schools and cultural institutions in Catalonia and the rest of Spain.
The name of the company was taken from the surname of one of the four founder members as it was the easiest to pronounce and the most commercially attractive. Julià later left the company but the name was maintained.
Shortly afterwards, Autocares Julià bought the first new coach, a 30-seater Chevrolet coach chassis equipped with all kinds of de-luxe details for discretional services.
The Spanish Civil War completely halted activity and it was not until the end of the 1950s that Autocares Julià became the leader in Catalonia in discretional passenger transport. Taking advantage of its leadership position, the company opened an office in Madrid. In 1958, Iberorutas was set up in Madrid with the aim of scheduling coach tours of the city and surrounding area. This service already existed in Barcelona under the name of Barcelona Tours.
Ten years later, Autocares Julià set up on the Costa del Sol with thirty coaches. The Catalan company became the leading tourist transport company in the region.
In the 1970s, the Spanish tourism boom, led to the creation of new companies. Thus were born Julià Tours (1968), Julià Central de Viajes (1973) and Julià Travel (1978), providing specialist services in holiday travel, business travel and inbound tourism, respectively. This was the embryo of the business group that today is Grupo Julià, which has been in service for more than 75 years and of which Autocares Julià has been the motor.
